Expertise when you need it
The current tax regime is intended to allow the HM Revenue and Customs to carry out more enquiries against returns submitted by taxpayers, be they individuals, partnership or companies. Under self assessment no one can escape the enquiry regime because a number of random cases are chosen for enquiry each year as well as those with specific technical problems (aspect) and full enquiries.
Full enquiries can be commenced on any business, individual or company and will result in a close examination of all books and records for a period of years. Great importance is attached to this line of work by the HM Revenue and Customs and a significant number of fully qualified accountants are now being employed by the HM Revenue and Customs specifically to deal with enquiry cases.
It is important that your tax adviser knows your rights and knows the limits of the power of the HM Revenue and Customs and can decide, on a case by case basis, what is the most appropriate way to proceed with a view to bringing the enquiry to an early, satisfactory, conclusion. At the same time it is important to maintain good relationships with the local Tax Office.
We have all the necessary expertise to handle any investigation work, and experience in dealing with both the local tax office as well as enquiries handled by the HM Revenue and Customs’s Special Compliance Office. We work to advise on the best approach to achieve swift and satisfactory solutions.
